# Revoke Update Authority

Make your Solana token immutable by revoking its update authority.

Revoking the update authority locks the name, symbol, image and links of the token forever. In Smithii it is done with Make Token Immutable.

## Make Token Immutable (Revoke Update Authority)

On the website, one tool has two names:

* **Make Token Immutable**, at `/make-token-immutable/solana`. This is the main address.
* **Revoke Update Authority**, at `/revoke-update/solana`. That address redirects to the one above.

In the Solana side menu, under "Revoke Authorities", the "Revoke Update Authority" entry opens the same page. The button on the page reads "Revoke Update Authority" and the success message reads "Update Authority revoked".

**Authority:** the update authority of the Metaplex metadata.

**How to use it**

1. Connect the wallet that holds the update authority.
2. Choose the token.
3. Click the button and sign.

The page also shows the "RS After Revoke" indicator.

**What changes on-chain**

The transaction keeps the name, symbol and metadata link as they are, and changes **one value**: it marks the metadata as not mutable. From then on nobody can change the token's name, symbol, image, description or social links, not even the wallet that held the update authority.

**Check everything first.** Name, symbol, description, image and links can't be fixed afterwards, not even a typo. **Good to know**

* If the metadata is already immutable, the page detects it and shows "Already revoked". If the tool can't read the current state, it lets you try and the chain rejects the operation.
* You must be the current update authority, or the transaction fails.

### Revoke update authority vs. make token immutable

The market uses both names as if they were the same thing, and in Smithii **they are**: both pages run exactly the same operation. The difference is only in how you describe it:

* **Make the token immutable** describes the result: the metadata is locked forever.
* **Revoke the update authority** describes the permission: the wallet loses its editing power.

Smithii gets that result by marking the metadata as not mutable. What matters is that the metadata is no longer mutable.

A different case, which Smithii doesn't offer, is transferring the update authority to another wallet (for example, a multisig). That keeps the metadata editable, just by someone else.

**Compatibility:** tokens with Metaplex metadata, standard SPL or Token-2022. **Smithii fee:** 0.2 SOL. **Reversible:** no.
